Joe Strummer

Joe Strummer is one of the few celebrities that I miss and think about on a regular basis the way I would a close personal friend. I saw this wall painting during a marathon bar crawl on trip to New York in 2006. I couldn't remember exactly where it was, but a FaceBook friend reminded me that it's outside Jessie Malin's bar, Niagara at 7th Street and Avenue A. I was quite excited to hear that it's still there.

 New York Circa 2008

ABOVE: New York circa 2008 - left: obligatory graffiti shot , right: outside the Dual Specialty Store in the East Village, a store I visit every NY trip to stock up on spices

ABOVE and BELOW: window meats (2007)

CBGBs circa 2004

A few pics from the only time I was in CBBGs. I don't even remember who was playing the night I was there - I vaguely recall them sounding like a poor man's Jon Spencer.

some pictures around new York

"Scoop. Pray. Eat." 2007

There was a Banh Mi place that I had to hit on every trip to New York - a small deli counter in sewing supplies/video store - but the place is gone and it looks like the building is being renovated for condos. Now that my favorite place for a Banh Mi is gone, this place will have to do.

I have no idea what these Travis Bickle, Bronson, Hanibal Lecter flyers I saw in Chinatown are for, but they looked damn cool.

I love a good sandwich, and the sandwiches at this insanely good smelling market were some of the best I've ever had.

some pics from a recent New York trip

ABOVE: Joe Strummer wall painting - I don't remember exactly where this is. I recall taking the picture somewhere after drinking lots of beer and before drinking more beer.

ABOVE: Noodles at a little place behind a news stand and a shoe shop in "the other China Town". A fabulous place with only 4 tables and some of the greatest smells ever. I would never be able to find this place again.
